tutti è noto, egli prese a cantar la disubbidienza e la caduta del primo uomo, e dettò quel poema, al quale se altri forse ricusa, dice l’Addisono, il nome di epico, gli sarà forza accordare il titolo di divino.

Sembra però assai naturale, siccome abbiamo per lo addietro ragionato, che la rima si abbia a ritenere ne’ componimenti composti massimamente di piccioli versi, la essenza dei quali sta nella leggiadría; e si debba al contrario sbandire dai componimenti composti di versi endecasillabi, e dai poemi eroici, a’ quali è consecrata la gravità della tuba.
