Molte, nel mondo, appaiono spiccate e preclare, le inclinazioni dell’animo umano; e per quante ve ne sono di singolari, tante classi enumeriamo di spiriti.
Chi alle opere rudi; chi alle arti gentili. Viene alla vita pieno di forza esuberante, alcuno ch’è pronto alle lotte cruente; e giunge del pari qui, con naturale di squisiti sentimenti, tale ch’è fatto per commuovere e per affratellare.
Saranno: quegli che in altre esistenze molto ha lottato, guerriero; e filosofo o poeta, questi che anni diede alle meditazioni ed agli intensi amori.
Così dai tempi storici! Ed avviene tuttora. Ma, pure fra i più nobili spiriti, alcuni, ch’ebbero riepilogate nella mente tutte le facoltà, eccellono. Son quelli che sanno praticare gentili virtù femminili nei contatti con gli altri, e per sè quelle virili. Hanno il giaco, per usare un paragone medievale, sotto il giustacuore di velluto! Armonizzano, raccolgono essi tutte le doti sublimi dell’animo, formate nella personalità con tanti affanni, nelle vite passate, e di più vi aggiungono, come vittoria ultima e nuova della propria evoluzione spirituale, la coscienza dell’essere loro e della missione divina.
Occultista, matematica, oratrice, di tale schiatta spirituale è la greca Ipazia alessandrina.
Ragione ed incoraggiamento a scrivere di lei, sono, per un membro della Società Teosofica, le belle ma succinte parole, l’elogio fattole da E. P. Blavatski, fondatrice della suddetta Società, nell’opera sua prima, intitolata Isis Unveiled. Lo riferiamo in nota1, in ossequio a chi lo scrisse e per debito onore a Colei cui andò tributato.
