• New request for comments: Community request for the development team to access inverse properties on client wikis. (Summary: We currently cannot access inverse property values on Wikipedia. This can be a data management issue on Wikipedia as we must always ask ourself if we must introduce an inverse property for cases where we need them. You can use the tool to explore words and their meanings, translations, and synonyms. • D'ora in poi, le pagine basate sul modello di contenuto JSON si autoindenteranno col carattere tab al posto dello spazio. In questo modo la loro dimensione diminuirà drasticamente. [4]
• È ora possibile usare la sintassi JavaScript delle edizioni ES6 (o "ES2015") ed ES7 (o "ES2016") negli accessori e script personali degli utenti. MediaWiki valida il codice sorgente sia per proteggere le altre funzionalità del sito dagli errori di sintassi, sia per controllare che gli script siano eseguibili da tutti i browser supportati. In precedenza, la sintassi ES6 si poteva usare negli accessori attivando l'opzione requiresES6. Adesso l'opzione è deprecata. [5]

• L'anno scorso è stato deprecato l'uso del modulo jquery.cookie a favore del modulo mediawiki.cookie. Adesso è stato eseguito uno script che ha completato le sostituzioni automaticamente. Il modulo jquery.cookie sarà rimosso da MediaWiki entro questa settimana. [11]

Modifiche future

• Al fine di rendere uniforme l'aspetto delle note sui vari wiki, si raccomanda di non farle generare di default all'accessorio Reference Tooltips bensì ad Anteprima note (una funzione di MediaWiki). 24 progetti Wikipedia che hanno impostato Reference Tooltips come un accessorio attivo di default sono incoraggiati a rimuovere il flag "default" dalle impostazioni dell'accessorio. Su altri 46 progetti Wikipedia che hanno meno di 4 amministratori dell'interfaccia questa modifica sarà fatta dal team Technical Wishes verso metà febbraio, salvo che non emergano obiezioni. • IP Masking: We are continuing the work on adapting Wikibase for the upcoming IP Masking feature, so that IP addresses for non-logged-in users are no longer published.
• Wikibase REST API:
  • We finished the route for getting and removing a sitelink from an Item (phab:T344039, phab:T344685) and we continue work on the one for adding/ replacing and modifying a sitelink on an Item (phab:T342987, phab:T342988)

• The WDQS Graph Split experiment is working and loaded onto 3 test servers. The team in charge is testing the split's impact and requires feedback from WDQS users through the UI or programmatically in different channels. • There was a bug that affected the appearance of visited links when using mobile device to access wiki sites. It made the links appear black; this issue is fixed.

Recent changes

• There are changes to how user and site scripts load for Vector 2022 on specific wikis. Gadgets are not impacted. If you have been affected or want to minimize the impact on your project, see this ticket. Please coordinate and take action proactively.
• Newly auto-created accounts (the accounts you get when you visit a new wiki) now have the same local notification preferences as users who freshly register on that wiki. It is effected in four notification types listed in the task's description.
• The maximum file size when using Upload Wizard is now 5 GiB. [37]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 February. It will be on all wikis from 22 February (calendar). [38][39]

• Selected tools on the grid engine have been stopped as we prepare to shut down the grid on March 14th, 2024. The tool's code and data have not been deleted. If you are a maintainer and you want your tool re-enabled reach out to the team. Only tools that have asked for extension are still running on the grid.
• The CSS filter property can now be used in HTML style attributes in wikitext. [40]

• È stato rimosso il messaggio "I collegamenti interlinguistici sono in cima alla pagina a destra del titolo" che appariva nel menu principale del tema Vector 2022. Il messaggio serviva ad avvisare gli utenti della nuova posizione del selettore della lingua. [58]
• Adesso la funzione IP info ricava i dati anche da Spur, un database di indirizzi IP. In precedenza l'unica fonte dei dati era MaxMind. La funzione è stata arricchita con più dati in modo che risulti più utile ai patroller. [59]
• I servizi Grid Engine di Toolforge sono stati arrestati dopo che è stata completata la migrazione da Grid Engine a Kubernetes. [60][61][62]

Problemi

• Non è stato applicato correttamente il tag "Annullato" agli annullamenti che sono stati fatti tra il 2 e l'8 aprile sui wiki che usano l'estensione Flagged Revisions. Inoltre nello stesso periodo non sono stati contrassegnati automaticamente come revisionati gli spostamenti, le protezioni e le importazioni. I due bug sono stati risolti. [80][81]

• D'ora in avanti la chiave d'ordine delle categorie predefinita avrà effetto anche sulle categorie aggiunte tramite template nelle note a pie' di pagina. In precedenza le note a pie' di pagina usavano il titolo della pagina come chiave d'ordine predefinita anche quando ne veniva impostata un'altra (al contrario, le chiavi d'ordine impostate per ciascuna categoria specifica hanno sempre funzionato correttamente). • Sarà aggiunta una nuova variabile nei filtri anti abusi. Si chiamerà page_last_edit_age e indicherà quanti secondi sono passati dall'ultima volta che è stata modificata ciascuna pagina. [85]

Modifiche future

Recent changes

• The appearance of talk pages changed for all wikis, except for Commons, Wikidata and most Wikipedias (a few have already received this design change). You can read the detail of the changes on Diff. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Mostra attività nelle discussioni"). The deployment will happen at remaining wikis in the coming weeks. [103][104]
• Interface admins now have greater control over the styling of article components on mobile with the introduction of the SiteAdminHelper. More information on how styles can be disabled can be found at the extension's page. [105]
• Wikimedia Enterprise has added article body sections in JSON format and a curated short description field to the existing parsed Infobox. This expansion to the API is also available via Wikimedia Cloud Services. [106]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 May. It will be on all wikis from 9 May (calendar). [107][108]
• When you look at the Special:Log page, the first view is labelled "All public logs", but it only shows some logs. This label will now say "Main public logs". [109]

Future changes

• A new service will be built to replace Extension:Graph. Details can be found in the latest update regarding this extension.
• Starting May 21, English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia will get the possibility to activate "Add a link". This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to all Wikipedias. These communities can activate and configure the feature locally. [110]

Tool of the week

• Wikidata periodic table - Tool by User:Ricordisamoa, to browse all chemical elements available on Wikidata, with atomic number, chemical symbol, and localized label. It also includes two charts of the nuclides, with links to every isotope in Wikidata, colored by half-life or decay mode.

Other Noteworthy Stuff

• A new UI mode is available for the online validator for EntitySchemas. It represents validation reports as a table rather than a very long string, and replaces most links with hyperlinks with some of the text behind them; making them easier to read. Currently being tested at https://shex-validator.toolforge.org/packages/shex-webapp/doc/shex-simple-improved.html, we are looking for participants to evaluate this tool. Some experience with editing Wikidata is appreciated, but no experience working with Schemas is required. If you are interested, you can sign up here. We hope to begin interviews around May 13.
